Our Tournament Journey

Archaeologists face significant challenges one of which includes  harsh environmental conditions (extreme heat/cold, insects, animal attacks, and treacherous terrain).   First Lego League teams were tasked to help solve an issue that archaeologists face on a daily basis.   TREX chose to focus on dig site challenges and began designing innovative solutions to assist professionals in overcoming these obstacles.

Alabama Qualifier

TREX attend the Alabama Qualifier at Westminster Christian Academy in November 2025.  We competed against 12 teams and won Best Innovation Project.  We took 2nd place in the Robot Games and earned a spot in the Alabama State Tournament in February 2026.

Innovation Project

TREX designed and built a small prototype of 4 mesh panels to attach to an after market canopy tent.  They built the frame and base to display a simulated dig site.  As an innovative measure, the windows were located towards the bottom half of the panel so the archaeologists could have a breeze while working.  The panels will keep out sun and shadows which affect photography and also deter bugs.

Robot Design

TREX's robot is named Reggie and was designed as a cube to instill stability and ease of attachments.  The team uses 5 different attachments to solve the UNEARTHED missions.

Alabama State

Innovation Project

TREX attend the Alabama State Tournament at Hampton Cove Middle School in Feb 2026.  We competed against 24 teams and placed 2nd overall capturing a coveted Champion's Qualifier award.  With this achievement, TREX has accepted an invitation to attend the Georgia Ramblin' Robot Invitational tournament in June.  This tournament will feature teams from across the nation as well as international teams.

TREX took the advice of the judges at the Qualifier tournament along with their archaeologist mentor and designed/built a full size version of their tent panel solution.

Robot Games

TREX competed in 3 rounds against the best teams in the state.  They were able to beat their previous Qualifier scores in the first round.  TREX was pleased with their performance in the robot games and took 6th place.

After the Qualifier, TREX modified their robot code for faster, innovative movements across the mat.  They also determined alternate ways to approach a mission.  These changes allowed time to add two missions to their game plan.
